Community facilities provide essential services and are important for enhancing the quality of life and for the health, safety, and well-being of community members.
Where these facilities are located and the level of service they provide helps implement other County policies, including growth management, land use, protection of natural resources, climate action initiatives, and equitable distribution of and access to services and resources. The Comprehensive Plan helps set the expectations for the provision of these services.
Community facilities and services include local government administration and offices, public water and sewer, schools, fire/rescue, police, community centers, libraries, broadband, wireless, solid waste management, recycling, and stormwater management. While the County does not directly provide all of these services (e.g. wireless), policies in the Comp Plan guide service provision and location.
The Comp Plan update is an opportunity to explore where community facilities and services recommendations can be updated to provide more equitable access and distribution to facilities and services. While it may not be possible to provide all public services at the same level of delivery across the entire County, it is important to periodically evaluate service delivery to see where it can be equitably enhanced and improved. This is especially important as new services become available, such as broadband.
