Growth Management Policy

Planning for Growth: Past and Present
An overview of Albemarle County’s current Growth Management Policy and a history of Growth Management dating back to the County’s first Comprehensive Plan in 1971. We will look at historical maps of the County’s designated Development Areas, identify recent growth and population trends, and consider how the Growth Management Policy is related to equity and climate action.

Planning for Growth: Future Land Use Buildout
This report looks ahead to the county's future, contemplates how much room we have left to grow in our current Development Areas (also known as the land use buildout analysis), and examines recent trends that might provide some insight into how we will grow in the future. Paired with the historical information and connections to equity and climate action, this report provides additional context to help us evaluate the current Growth Management Policy.
